My initial impressions of Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10 for the Wii with motion plus.....

Here's my initial impressions of Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10 for the Wii with motion plus.....

I have to say I had really high hopes for this years Tiger Woods game because of the M+, and it honestly has surpassed all of my expectations.

This is is MUST BUY for all Wii Owners, and the version to purchase for all multi console owners.

TW10 is without a doubt the best golf game I have ever played. M+ makes it very realistic & completely immersive.

M+ perfectly reads what you are doing. Take putting for example. For the first time in a TW Wii game putting works just like real life. My first putt, I swung a bit harder than you would in "real life", and my ball shot across the green. It very accurately tracks whether you are taking a long or short putt. You can either look at the onscreen meter, or just swing like you would in real life. Follow through really matters too. The aiming with the M+ is perfect, the worst feature of last years Tiger is now perfectly executed. 2009 putting is still available (not like you would WANT to use it), but with motion plus, just select precision putting instead of standard and you will be amazed.

The swing mechanic? Wow. Taking a shot feels, well....natural. M+ works so much better than any of the previous versions, the accuracy is almost scary. When driving, the harder you swing, the farther the ball goes. Hit at 50% power with a slight fade, that's what you get. Power swing with a draw? You actually having to worry about both your backswing and power/follow through in a golf video game. And if you don't know how to do those things in real life, the tutorial is concise and explains the basics of it all in few short (2 minute) lessons.

Motion+ makes the gameplay jump lightyears beyond any other golf game ever made. The gameplay certainly leaves the more visually stimulating versions(PS360PC) far behind.

The weather on the course you are playing is based on real time weather at the actual course location, which TW checks from the Wii's weather channel.

And the amount of content in this game boggles the mind. Most content packed Tiger Woods game ever.

Included are almost every golf related activity you could imagine, this will keep you busy for a LONG time.

Online Modes include:

*Online play: both simultaneous play & real time tournaments, daily and weekly.

Traditional Modes include:

*Quick Play
*PGA Tour
*Fed-X Cup

*One-Ball
*Team One-Ball
*Battle Golf

Mini Games
*Mini Putt (Putt Putt)
*Target

I have only tried the disc golf, but it really shows off the M+. I tried throwing it traditionally, straight up, straight down, backhand and I have to say it works very well. Lots of fun. Gets me excited for Wii Sports Resort!!

2 other points of interest:

There will be downloadable content in the future.

If you are playing local multiplayer, you can play with a "Pass the Wii remote" mode until you get more M+ attachments.

I highly recommend it to anybody looking for a good golf game. It's brilliant.

Sorry for the bad pun in the title, but the first words out of my mouth when booting this game up were, "Oh wow! Tiger got ugly!" Thankfully, first impressions don't matter for much with this game. Mostly, I purchased this game to get a crack at the new Wii Motion Plus controller accessory, so this review is as much a review of the game as the hardware. If you buy the version with the wii motion plus pack-in, you also get a new silicone sheath for the wii remote, which is a nice touch.

GAMEPLAY: So basically, the game is golf, something that I do quite poorly at in real life. Golf games and I do about as poorly. Every few years I go out and buy a golf game, and I basically pay attention to fun and accessibility. On both counts, the game is very, very good.

CONTROL: With the Wii Motion Plus, this game plays better than any other golf game that I've ever played. Give yourself thirty minutes with the new motion controls and you may never be able to go back to Wii Sports Golf. The controls feel realistic and responsive, but kind enough to make the game accessible to a golf neophyte. Without the Wii motion plus, all I could think of doing was putting the motion plus accessory back on as quickly as possible.

GRAPHICS: Serviceable. I've seen a lot better looking games on the Wii. Water is barely animated and looks pretty pixelated, trees are low res, and character models are only a bit better looking. Character animation is very smooth though and the game seems to match your motions in real life fairly nicely. Oh, but not the crowd... they look really really bad and are animated extremely poorly.

AUDIO: It's golf with announcers. Sometimes the announcers say some pretty funny stuff, but mostly it's what you would expect from any golf event, either in a game or in real life.

FEATURES: Absolutely stuffed.
- This game has lots of game modes, one of them being disc golf. I can already tell that disc golf is going to be one of my favorite party games. Disc golf does away with the announcers and replaces them with some tacky elevator music, but party games usually end up with the stereo blasting mixes from someone's iPod or Zune at unhealthy levels, right?

- Character Customization: Deep and highly customizable. Want to make an aging, pot-bellied, Asian, redneck, punk-rocker with missing teeth, a mohawk, cowboy boots, fu-manchu, mutton chops, and a kilt? You can do it. My friend and I spent at least 45 minutes tricking out our characters trying to make the most outlandish combinations we could think of and we had fun doing it. You can go into the shop and buy additional stuff with your winnings to get even more cool items to trick your character out with.

- As you play, your character gains experience in different abilities and areas. You can spend this experience to boost your stats. This definitely increases the replay value for completionists.

- Online play that doesn't require friend codes!

- Dynamic weather that integrates with the Wii Weather channel. Seems kind of cool. The feature definitely isn't based off of your local weather and seems to be based off the weather at that particular golf course in real life. I'm pretty sure of this because it was raining heavily all evening in my town and none of my games had any rain.

VALUE: With over 20 courses, disc golf, and a decently deep experience system will keep dedicated players playing for a very long time. Multi-player gameplay is a blast and great for groups of friends.

Overall, I recommend this game to anyone that enjoys golf games and also to gamers that only casually enjoy golf games. I'm not exaggerating when I say this is the best golf game that I've ever played to date. This game has features that I'll probably never ever see or even touch, but other people may love them. The nearly instantaneous ability to pick up and play the game is very nice, but there are enough nuances to the game that hardcore players will definitely have a game to hone their skills on. This is probably one of the only sports games I will ever review as a "must have" title for anyone who enjoys the genre.
Amazing Experience.

When I first heard Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10 would be supporting Wii MotionPlus, I could have cared less.

I, in all honesty, never even touched a Tiger Woods game before in my life. I'm just not that into golf as a whole. After watching a few videos here and there, they quickly caught my attention.

This game is, beyond a shadow of a doubt, an amazing demonstration of how the Motion Plus can be used. You literally feel as if you're holding the club when going to hit the ball as it tracks the speed you are swinging as well as the angle.

The game is also packed with great features, my favorite being disk golf. In case you are unaware, disk golf is basically golf with a frisbee. With the Motion Plus, though, it feels incredibly real. You can throw it normally, sideways, hell, even upside down and it all happens in real time (with an incredibly minor delay in animation that is barely noticeable).

No longer do your movements feel scripted, the Motion Plus easily fixes that. To see the difference between the regular controller and the Motion Plus, try playing Disk Golf with and without it. (You can simply unplug the addon at any time to revert to the old sensor as well as plugging it back in to revert to the new one without any kind of setup.)

While the game is great and has plenty of content and online abilities, the only area that I find troubling is the graphics. The courses, as a whole, look great and the character animations for your golfer are great as well, but some of the textures seem stretched and overall low quality.

Not to mention the lack of even a minor amount of Anti-aliasing on the characters (and even the ball) at times.

The multiplayer is great online and offline and the entire game as a whole has plenty of replay value. For a full list of information, check out sites like IGN to see what the game really as to offer.

Summary:

Pros:
+ MotionPlus - Remember the first time you played bowling in Wii Sports? Yeah, this is about 300x cooler.
+ Pretty Damn Fun - Golf, while not known for it's incredible amount of excitement, fits great with the Wii MotionPlus and keeps you addicted.
+ Plenty of Modes - From Career to Party games, this disc is crammed with plenty of things to keep you and your friends busy all day.
+ Online Support - While I didn't get to completely try it out, the game supports online tournaments as well as DLC costumes for your character.

Cons:
- Graphics - While they are fairly good for a Wii game, they lack the polish of some first party titles, such as Super Mario Galaxy. Not to mention the low quality of the textures in major areas.
- Almost... Too Precise - While the Wii MotionPlus is great in how it works, it can be somewhat too precise for beginners. It took me a few hours to grasp how to swing in order to avoid getting a Draw or Fade, for example. Other things, such as Disk Golf, come naturally.

So that's about all I can come up with. If you're looking for a more in-depth review, once again, check out sites like IGN as they cover more areas. From a consumer standpoint, this game is pretty damn good. If you like golf in any way, I'm sure you'd love this game. Just make sure to get the bundle!
best game ever

Golf video games will never be the same again. Since they added the wii motionplus, the golf swing on the wii is far more realistic now than ever before. The main problem with TW09 was that it was too easy and that every shot you hit went dead straight. Now the controls are very much more sensitive, as you can fade or draw using a real fade or draw swing. I believe golfers will love this game and from here on out, it will only get better. The guys on igolfgolf love this game (and they are golfers, not gamers).

Some of the improvements over TW09:

-Better swing control, you can hit it offline in a hurry if you're not careful. Better power control, 100% vs. 90% vs. 80% seem more like the real thing (TW09 was bad in this regard).

-Much better putting, small stroke for a tap-in and a big stroke for a lag putt. You can also hit it badly, i.e. push it or pull it.

-Better online play. Weekly and Daily tournaments. Wow.

-Others (these are minor as far as I am concerned): Disc golf, real-time weather, more courses, more players.

Things they can do better:

-Graphics: they are the same as TW09 and worse than the Xbox or PS3 versions, but hey, you can't have everything.

-Speed it up: It takes about 20 - 30 mins to play 18 holes

-Chipping: this is still not great

Summary:

Yes it is the best game ever. If you like golf you need this game.
FINALLY! A Wii game to be excited about!!

I have had a Wii for over a year now, and have had over 15 different games, and I have got to say Tiger Woods 10 is by far my favorite - and I'm not even a golf fan! Everything is great about it: The graphics, the sound, creating characters, the new game modes, the three different types of career modes, load times, driving, putting, and even water hazards! Ok, maybe not water hazards.

I will start with everyone's favorite, the graphics. AMAZING!! (for the Wii, of course.) I saw an earlier reviewer who wrote this: "Great golf game, but the graphics didn't quite make par." That is BOGUS. I guarantee that you will be happy with these graphics. That person was obviously just trying to be cute with the golf par pun, and didn't care about writing an accurate review. Obviously, the graphics of Tiger Woods 10 on the Wii aren't "par" with what they look like on the 360, but no Wii game ever will... but let me tell you, this one comes close. Anywho, the landscaping, while not exactly perfect and smooth, is still attractive and at some times pretty. The crowd is fine, but again, pretty good considering this game is for the Wii. The characters look realistic and their movements seem flawless. For the graphics, I give an A+.

To me, the most important and amazing part of Tiger Woods 10 is the controls. Flawless, perfect, amazing, www.thesaurus.com help me find more adjectives! This is why you must get this game. I got the bundle with the MotionPlus accessory, and I have to say, I am in awe. I have played a little (real) golf, and I can tell when I have a good swing or a bad one, and I swear that translates into the game. A nice smooth swing will get you much better results than some fast, jerky vertical type of baseball swing. And while driving, you actually do have to swing fairly hard. I tested many different swings (in their new club tester mode, hooray!) and if I swung a little too softly, I didn't get 100%. And even putting is great! I use the precision putting mode where you get only one putter and the size and power of your swing determine the distance the ball travels, as opposed to classic where you choose from different putters with different strengths, which just isn't realistic. Anyway, precision putting IS realistic. It's very realistic - except when you miss that par putt you don't feel like throwing your golf club (aka your Wii remote) into the lake (aka your TV screen). It's so realistic, I sometimes have the urge to put on my golf shoes before starting up my Wii. For the controls, I give ten A+'s and a million friggin' gold stars.

Multiplayer and online - again, amazing. I have only played with a friend at home (we had to get her the MotionPlus accessory as well), but it is addictively (this game inspires me to make up words) fun. There are online modes where you can play in daily tournaments or weekly four round tournaments against your friends or the rest of the world. I didn't even know the Wii had online capabilities, but I am going to hook mine up just so I can play in these tournaments. There is even what they call "Dynamic weather", which takes the weather forecast from each course and integrates it onto the course in your game. Overall, multiplayer and online get yet another A+

Game modes. I have only tried the career mode and a quick game against a friend. The career mode seems to be long, and it definitely doesn't lack in detail. While you play, you gain experience depending on how well you are doing throughout a course. If you have a great drive, you gain experience in the "power" category. If you get 10 feet away from the hole off a drive on a par 3, you get power and accuracy, and if you sink the putt you gain focus and putting, and because you got a birdie your receive a x2 multiplier. After the course, it will show you how much you've gained in each category, and if you have accumulated enough points you can distribute it in the "skills" section. During my career, I have played courses where whoever has the lowest after 18 wins, and some where you are playing against another golfer, and whoever wins the most holes is the winner. If you win, you get more money. Everyone loves money. You can then visit the pro shop and buy new clubs, or even balls, that give you different skills boosts. And you can, of course, buy new clothes - man those polo's are expensive! Overall, A+

If I haven't convinced you to buy the game yet, let me go through some extra things that I loved.

-First, I don't think I have ever (seriously, ever) played a game with this quick of load times. You turn your Wii on and less than a minute later you are already on the tee.

- There are 27 courses (10 of which are new), and that means 486 holes. Wow, am I seriously never going to get bored here?

-The character creation is great, too. You can make so many different types of people: from men and women, fat to thin, young to old, Asian to country, ridiculously cartoonish and hilarious to just plain boring - whatever you want, basically! It's all there.

I guess that just about sums it up. If you get this game, which you seriously need to, then get the bundle with the MotionPlus. If it seems like $59.99 is a little much, then just think: Tiger Woods 10 blows any of your old Wii games out of the water, so you'll just be selling them all anyway. Thanks for reading, now if you'll excuse me, I'm putting for the birdie that will put me 6 under for the day.
Best Tiger Yet! Just a couple things now.

Reviewer: Bruuen,
I basically bought a Wii for tiger woods to begin with in 07 because making the golf motion was cool. Until this game was realised I hadn't even touched my wii for like 6 months. So I was hoping tiger could resurrect the system from the dead for me.

Gotta say so far i'm quite hooked.

Putting - The putting has been greatly improved (the amount of juice you need to give it in most situations is pretty acurate to real life, and you shouldn't really miss many puts 10 feet or less (if they're level and straight) other wise just life realy life you will miss some. Only part of putting that I didn't find accurate was uphill. a 40foot putt uphill you really have to wack the ball. even though in real life this would take some juice, It takes way more than i'd actually need to use in real life. Once you get used to it though, you know how much to give it and get over this. Motion Plus is awesome because it senses the putting motion right away, so you can just putt and go not worrying about the computer to catch up to what you did and potentially read your putt wrong. Overall the putting experience is great and saves the game over the 2 weeks I played last years tiger before it started collecting dust.

Driver/fairway/chipping - Driving onto the fairway is quite easy to do (i'm playing on medium right now so don't know much harder this gets on the higher settings) getting 100% isn't too difficult. Hitting from the rough can be awkward sometimes, even when it says 90% lie, it doesn't go as far as it should when accounting for the various conditions. (this is hit and miss) getting the right % on a shot can be difficult, i've been slowly getting the hang of it, but on a couple occasions i've still hit 100% when i wanted 80% (and slowed down my swing) or hit 40% when wanting to hit 70% its quite satisfying when you do hit the right % though as you usually wind up with a good shot. just takes some practice, for next year they could make this aspect of the game a bit tigher though. Also when shooting from the sand, really exagerate the follow through or else you might not get out, thats a good thing though, i like how the follow through plays more of a role in this game.

Graphics - pretty much the same, but I don't think anyone really cares. Gameplay is much more imporant and no one is expecting mind blowing graphics on wii.

Annoucing - gets a bit annoying, hearing contradicting messages (ie. what an awesome shot on the green, he'll be very pleased - followed by - his putt is still a far way away, a rather mediocre effort there) Other thing is I hate hearing the announcer call where the ball will land before you see it land.

PGA TOUR - I'm enjoying the tour so far, I actaully have one HUGE beef with the leaderboard though. I put myself on 2 rounds per tournament. On round one I shot an amazing -12 (not that it was 2 easy, I just happened to have an amazing round) which had beat second place at -7. When entering round 2 - the competition was all of a sudden at -22. (Meaning they had scores like 68-54) I know they're trying to challenge you, but I'm sure the whole front page of the leadboard didn't improve over 10 strokes overnight. If i want to change difficultly i'll do it myself, but if i'm on my way to a win i should easily get, its annoying seeing the computer adjusting to your scores (i ended up in 2nd in that event after having a -5 lead and getting 6 birdies in round 2, just annoying. (perhaps theres a way to change that and I just don't know? please feel free to comment.

Overall I'm really enjoying the game.
Great game from a guy who has never liked golf games

I'm not the type of guy to play golf games. Like the actual sport they just seemed too boring for me. I bought Tiger Woods solely because I wanted the Wii Motion Plus, and thought that disc golf and the actual golf should be, at least, interesting. They were. They were/are in fact extremely addicting. I just spent the last three hours playing, only stopping because I realize I have to be up for work tomorrow.

First off, if you were wondering, Wii-Motion plus does work. There are a few times where you may swing too quickly on your back swing and it will register a hit, but I found that the controls are scarily accurate. Twists of your wrist begin to mean a lot. You strength behind your swing actually determines how far you will hit the ball.

What this means is that the game is only as good as you are. You will have many frustrating moments where you fade or draw your shot into a bunker or behind a tree. However, when you chip in a shot from that bunker to make par, you know it was because there was actual skill involved.

I found myself concentrating not just on how I swung my arms (like wii golf), but also how I twisted my hips and followed through. After some time I finally found the correct form. I could also tell when I was off from that form, and sure enough, the game reflected it.

I have barely scratched the surface of the game. I tried disc golf (very fun side game) and played a couple of tournaments, but have went no where near the online (which is supposed to be very robust). I even spent 15 minutes customizing the clothes on my character, and the colors of my shaft (that's what she said) and grip.

This game, with the bundle, is well worth your money. However, as I mentioned, be warned, it is addictive. I just spent 10 minutes writing this review because I can't get the game off my mind.

5 stars.
Best golf game...so far

TW10 is definitely a must for the die-hard gamer who wants his(her) golf sim to be as realistic as possible. With the inclusion of the Wii MotionPlus (M+) gizmo, you get some amazingly realistic nuances. "Nuance" -- when was the last time you saw that in reference to a sports sim game?

My experience is primarily with the "Career" part of the game, so that's what I'll focus on. Other reviewers have done a good job listing the features; I'm going to relate my playing experience, and how it compares to real life. (I'm an average golfer.) My comparison is to TW08, both the PC and Wii versions, which I have pretty much mastered. The disc golf is a cute addition, but I found it dull -- probably better as a party game.

The M+ really changes the way the controller behaves. Except for All-Play mode, where all the shots are perfect, and anybody with a pulse can break 60 regularly, the M+ gives you some pretty fine-motor control of the swing mechanics. Examples include observations like these: 1) if you don't cock your wrist at the top of the backswing, you'll have a very hard time getting to 100% power; 2) you have to pay attention to the "club face" at impact (the amount to which the controller might not be exactly parallel to the swing plane), because if it's not square (i.e. the "club face" is too open or closed), you're going to get a draw or fade (or hook or slice) that you might not want. On the other hand, sometimes you need that control. 3) It's hard to master something like a consistent "85% power" shot (just like real life). Full swings are more consistent in their outcomes.

The one place where the game and the M+ fall down a little is in putting, specifically, putts that are at least several inches uphill or down. When using my "real-life" putting stroke (dead hands & wrists, do the "triangle pendulum" of arms and shoulders), I found that I was hitting downhill putts way past the hole, and uphill putts were always way too short. Relatively flat putts are very comparable to real life experience; read the "break beads" correctly and you can make most putts inside 15-20 feet. And the pace of the swing matters more -- unlike TW08, 6 and 10 footers are not practically always gimmes. The solution that works for me is to consciously cock my wrists a bit (thus increasing the perceived speed of the putterhead) when putting uphill; and for downhill putts -- just hit it about half as far as you think it should go.

My only beef with the Career mode is that it starts you out on Bethpage Black, set to U.S. Open length, and it's impossible to hit the ball more than 230 yards. It takes many, many rounds to gradually upgrade your skills to where you can break par on a regular basis. But those first few tournaments were brutal on my ego. (I'll admit that I switched to All-Play mode for several rounds, just to get my skill numbers up faster.) But it's motivating; the designers draw you into the game by saying "at the beginning, you'll suck, and struggle to break 80; you won't win anything; keep playing and playing, and eventually you'll get more success".

I think that, for me, that's what it really boils down to. Being smart with how you spend your skill points, carefully choosing your wardrobe and clubs to maximize bonus attributes, and then when you get to where you can usually break par, the real fun starts (at least for this golfer). You actually have to "think your way around a golf course"...you can't always just fire at the flag. Sometimes you have to think about "where to miss". Long clubs have a shorter flight and longer roll than in earlier TW games, so you have to play shots like "I'll hit this 3 iron so that it bounces 15 yards in front of the green, and make sure I shoot the gap between those two front bunkers". If you wind up in the middle of the green with a 40 foot putt...well, that's golf. It's better than being in the bunker. You won't be able to count on adding a ton of spin by shaking the controller, to make a mediocre approach shot turn out perfect. It still helps, but the amount of assistance you get is more modest.

Minor knocks on the game, such as: the mediocre graphics some reviewers have mentioned (mostly in the background), the fact that the commentary gets old fast, and the putting suggestions "Kelly and Scott" give, while more accuate than in TW08, are still sometimes just plain wrong -- all those things really don't affect game play much. If you want REAL realism, get your clubs out of the trunk (or garage) and reserve a tee time somewhere. But with hardware and software continuing to improve, this version represents a significant milestone in playability.

I've only spent about 20-30 hours in the game and haven't got to Q-school yet, so there's a lot more that awaits. I'm looking forward to every minute.

This game is amazing. Tiger Woods golf has never been so addictive. Wii Motion Plus turns your living room into a golf course, it's as well-done golf simulation as you can get in a video game. So many courses. Played it for a few hours after purchasing and was blown away. Plenty of game modes to keep any golf enthusiast busy for ample time. Only got to 3 or 4 in a 2-1/2 hour period we were having so much fun. Even got the wife to play a few holes. Also, bundled with Motion Plus a great deal for your pocketbook, only $10 extra. Definite must-buy in '09 for Wii owners.

After playing the golf game in Wii Sports last summer I started looking into another golf game. Tiger Woods 2009 was out then, but some negative reviews about the putting and the prospect of the Motion Plus this year enticed me to wait. I'm glad that I waited. The draw and fade from the Motion Plus are very natural and easy, but the real eye-opener was the Disc Golf. I played with the Motion Plus while my wife used the regular Wii controller-- it was amazing to see how unresponsive the Wii controller without the Motion Plus was.

As for the game in general, it is enormous. There are lots of courses, lots of modes, and lots of options. The character customization is almost _too_ much, though when we finally finished my avatar with a nice EA floral print shirt it was mildly impressive.

I have never owned another golf game, but am glad that I waited for Tiger Woods 10 instead of buying the 2009 version last summer.

The Good: I'm not sure if this is a good or a bad, of if I'm just out of shape, but you _really_ have to swing. After playing a couple of hours my arm is hurting. When you hit a really good shot the Wiimote starts pumping like your heart and the screen narrows in. It's pretty cool.

The Bad: Many shots don't seem to do what you think they ought to, though this might just be because I'm still a beginner. The manual doesn't do a good job of explaining everything about the game, leaving you guessing as to what some things mean and what's going on (such as the percentage by the type of swing, or one of the requirements for advancing to the PGA).
