The Kobayashi Report

I bought this because for some reason I couldn't get my Wii connected wirelessly. I don't know why that is because we do have a wireless modem. But all the same with this I was able to hook my system up with my LAN line and was able to get online. So I think it was worth it because there were games over the network that I wanted to buy.
The cable that came with it was just bonus =D. But anyway this thing is really awesome. |
Works very well for our Nintendo Wii.

| This allows your Nintendo Wii to connect via DSL modem to the internet for weekly games updates and you can browse items on the internet. |
Works fine

| Nothing really exciting about it. Wanted to attach the Wii to a router for downloading movies/tv shows from Netflix. It does that, and is easy to hook up. (While I'm reasonably tech savvy I don't have an abundance of patience. I want to plug in and go). The price seemed reasonable. |
Didn't work

Did not work with my Wii. Spent an hour trying to set it up and it just kept beeping "testing connection" with no result. I couldn't even get it to reboot without unplugging. Nintendo makes it hard to set up internet for LAN users. I opened up all the ports on my router and it still didn't work.
I guess I won't be playing online or buying from their Wii store. Too bad for you Nintendo |
Did not work with my Wii

| Out of character, I read the instructions first before I installed the adapter. Despite this, it still didn't work. Had I read the manual more thoroughly I would have seen that Nintendo is quite emphatic that only their LAN adapter will work. How others were able to use theirs is one of those unquestioned anomalies that sometimes occur. Of course, had I read further and not made assumptions, I would have seen that I could use my wireless router without an external adapter. This configuration works great and saves me the cost of the wired adapter. New mid-year resolution: read the entire manual before operating something, even if I think I know what I'm doing! |
